No sooner did I learn the twist of In a Violent Nature, one of the summer’s most-hyped horror movies, than I rushed to see it. The slow-burning Sundance hit promised to give viewers everything they’ve come to expect from a classic horror movie, but from the killer’s point of view. For most of the film, we’re watching Johnny—the supernatural psychopath brought back from the dead by the theft of his mother’s old locket—as he stalks and slashes his victims. We’re following him, but that doesn’t get us any closer to who he is or what he wants.
